Former best cricket umpire David Shepherd dies today after a long fight with cancer. He was 68 Year old. He also played country level cricket for Gloucestershire from 1965-69. He was born in Bideford, Devon, England. He scored more than 10000 runs for his team.

He umpired in 92 test matches, which is maximum by any umpire. He was umpire in 172 one day Internationals as well, including most important world cup cricket finals.
He was appointed as first class umpire in 1981 and just after 4 years he was promoted as an International umpire.
Dickie Bird, who umpired many matches with Shepherd, said his former coworker would be missed.
“I feel very saddened this has happened,” he told Sky Sports.
“He was a fine umpire, we spent many happy hours together. He was a great man and a tremendous man to umpire with. He was a good bloke, he’ll be sadly missed and he was a great friend.”
