The recently released Abbas-Mastan Bollywood flick Players does pretty Okay, but will not allow the actors and director to raise of toast of happiness and “big success.” Official remake of original Hollywood classic movie The Italian Job, Players is actually missing the very essence of the original flick, but considering that not much of the Indian audience would have seen The Italian Job, this one can be considered a remake blended nicely with the Indian masala.
Okay, so what can ‘the desi audience’ expect from Players? Well, almost everything including hi-voltage action, stylized stunts, stunning visuals and to top it all, Pritam’s music. What critics won’t like in the film is the poor editing that has surely become a big turn-off and poor screenplay. No, the Race director is not to be blamed here. The storyline can be considered somewhat akin Race where you will again see love betrayal and partner swapping. If we again talk from the critic’s point of view poor and dragged screenplay as well as not-so-impressive dialogues have let us all down.
Players, unfortunately fails to amuse people and the lack of enthusiasm in the screenplay make it more tormenting. Well, gorgeous Bipasha and Sonam also failed to capture audience after a while and the worst of all situations, audience wants to be out of the theater at some point of the time. Hard luck for Abbas-Mastan here!
After so much has been said, people are expecting at least “some” praise for the music. Well, surprise surprise, you will again be depressed here! The music, especially the background one during chasing sequence as well as during climax also fails to ring the success bells for Players. The music just seems out of sync with the essence and theme of the movie and so, sorry Pritam, even you didn’t do any good for the movie!
A total fail on the part of editing, screenplay, music and dialogues, we won’t be as harsh as others in calling the movie “a complete disaster”, but it surely is a big-time turn-off. Only the direction skills of Abbas-Mastan and cinematography cannot be doubted. As far as actor’s performances are concerned, only Neil Nitin Mukesh and Bipasha Basu have managed to impress. It won’t be wrong to say that Players will completely lose this ‘game of fame’!
So are we impressed and will we ever suggest this movie to you? We completely leave it up to you after this review!
