The South African had high expectations in India. They had planned for a series of matches including test matches, Twenty 20s, ODIs but then their time got shortened by the Indian Premier League 2010.
The Indian Cricket Board BCCI had set 5 ODIs with South Africa initially but as time went by and with India becoming the world’s number one test match cricket team with confidence the BCCI asked the CSA (Cricket South Asia) to play 3 ODIs and 2 test matches too. The BCCI was under criticism for many days till CSA CEO Gerald Majola clarified the situation surrounding the postponement.
“The decision was taken by the two countries at the time of the ICC CEC meeting in June this year when it became clear that it would not be possible to have a full-length tour including both Tests and ODIs because of the heavy commitments of both countries,” he said in a statement.
South Africa has one of the top test match teams and these matches are going to decide who is going to top the ICC list. The India South Africa Series is going to start from 7th Feb 2010.
The first India v South Africa one day internationals is going to be played at Jaipur, the second one at Green Park, Kanpur and the final one at Sardar Patel Stadium, Motera, Ahmedabad. These venues haven’t hosted an international game since February 2007 and April 2006 respectively.
However the India v South Africa test matches this year will be played at VCA stadium in Nagpur and at Eden gardens in Kolkata. The VCA stadium has been one of the favorite venues of the BCCI recently.
