With the launch of new series of smartphones by Sony, the temperatures in the smartphone markets are running high again. In stiff competition with Samsung, HTC and Motorola, Sony has been doing considerably well with its Xperia series. With the delay in the launch of Apple Iphone 5, other market players find it as an opportune time to come out with their new products. Here we discuss about two new smartphones launched by Sony very recently, the Sony Xperia U and the Xperia sola.
Sony Ericsson Xperia U:
With its unique exchangeable end caps and peppy and smart-aleck mood lighting, the Xperia U hit the markets on May 15. Combined with Sony’s unique xLOUD and great surround sound and audio technology of 3D category , the 3.5 inch smartphone is loaded with a 1GHz NovaThor STE U8500 dual core processor . There has not been any major advancement in RAM or internal memory, with the Xperia U having 512MB RAM and 4GB of internal storage. The resolution of the phone is 480*854 pixels while the pixel density is 280 ppi. The device has a capacitive, multi-touch screen. It also comes with the Xperia features of Light sensor, Proximity sensor and scratch resistant glass.
The camera is 5 megapixels with 720p HD video recording and supports auto focus face detection, geo tagging and digital zoom along with panorama feature. The battery has a modest capacity of 1320mAh, giving it a talk time of 6.6 hours and stand by time of 10.8 days, though it doesn’t have a NFC.
The phone runs on Android 2.3, with an upgrade to android Ice Cream sandwich. It is available in two colors, black and white. The black color comes with pink and white exchangeable caps, while the white color comes with a yellow exchangeable cap. The price is an attractive RM899.
Sony Ericsson Xperia sola:
The phone that all of us were waiting for. The phone with the floating touch interface that makes navigation possible by just hovering the finger over the screen, without touching it. As regards the specifications, it has a 3.7 inch Reality display. The resolution is 854*480 pixels, which is very good and a pixel density of 265ppi. It is powered by a 1 GHz NovaThor STE U8500 dual-core processor just like the Xperia U. With 512MB of RAM and 8GB of storage on board, it allows for micro SD expansion.
The camera is 5 megapixels and has all the features of the xperia series. It runs on android 2.3.7, with an upgrade to Android Ice cream sandwich. It is available in black, white and red colors with blue and white smart tags. The price of the phone Is RM999. The phone was launched on May 15 along with the Xperia U.
