If the headline just amused you, then you would be further keep amused by the fact that the leading social networking site Facebook has been given a green signal in its endeavor to trademark the word ‘Face’.
According to the U.S Patent and Trademark Office, the social networking giant has past the opposition phase and has been issued a “Notice of Allowance”. Neil Friedman, a partner at law firm Baker and Reynolds who regularly practices trademark law seems positive that the application might be approved. Friedman said, “At the end of the day, will they have protection in this space? Yes,”
The world’s largest domain name registrar GoDaddy.com said that it has 53, 000 domain names with the word ‘face’ registered in its database. The company found out that in the .com world alone, the Internet has 89,000 domain names with the word ‘Face’.
The “Notice of Allowance” doesn’t mean that Facebook has won the battle. The company needs to pay an issue fee, and submit a statement explaining how it uses the word face. Alongside, Neil Friedman says that there are other trademarks which are filed for using the word “face’.
No matter what, Facebook would still continue to remain the Social networking giant, with or without the trademark!
